Week 14 Upsets/Close Calls: Chicago Bears 16,848 - Denver Broncos 16,602 This. Was. Huge. On so many levels this upset was big time. Denver was averaging almost 2,000 more points than Chicago coming into the game. A victory would have all but sealed them a playoff spot. Is it possible that Tim Tebow and Tebowmania is taking too much energy out of the Denver fan base and there is not enough left for The Season? Perhaps. Detroit Lions 18,371 - Minnesota Vikings 16,960 While the records would indicate that this was not an upset- the average scores throughout this season do make this an upset. More importantly, The Detroit fans keep themselves ahead in the Wildcard race, but more on that later. Minnesota continues their flummoxing season, and yet, they have a chance to deliver a harsh defeat to New Orleans next week. Philadelphia Eagles 15,640 - Miami Dolphins 14,248 My goodness this made no sense. Eagles fans (#26) did what they have been doing all season: Scoring around 16,000 points. Miami Dolphins fans all of the sudden became one of the worst teams in the league. Maybe all of the smart Miami players have already decided to jump on the Houston, New England or Oakland bandwagon. New Orleans Saints 16,964 - Tennessee Titans 16,259 Oh. So. Close. Tennessee almost pulled off the huge upset, and if they had they would be tied with Denver AND Jacksonville for the last Wildcard spot. Alas, New Orleans Saints proved to be too smart, and have continued their Mardi Gras march to the playoffs. Oakland Raiders 18,937 - Green Bay Packers 18,714 After starting 10-0, Green Bay fans were looking like they could mimic their team and go undefeated this season. Four weeks later they are now 11-3 after losing to Tampa Bay (close game), Detroit (Upset) and Oakland (So Close!). With a tough game against Kansas City and a re-match against Detroit looming, there is a chance that Detroit could win the division. Crazy!
AFC Playoff Picture #1 Seed: #2 Houston Texans (12-1) Division Champion #2 Seed: #8 New England Patriots (11-3) Division Champion #3 Seed: #10 Pittsburgh Steelers (11-3) Division Champion #4 Seed: #7 Kansas City Chiefs (11-3) Wild Card Rankings (top two make the playoffs): 1.#4 Oakland Raiders (11-3) 2. #9 Jacksonville Jaguars (9-5) 3. #14 Denver Broncos (9-5) 4. #24 Tennessee Titans (8-6) The AFC playoffs are STILL all about the Houston Texans Fans, the AFC West and the battle for the last Wildcard spot. It is going to go down to the wire. Jacksonville plays the worst team in the league (Atlanta) and one of the worst (Indianapolis) to end the Season. Denver plays two top 10 teams (New England and Kansas City) to the end the Season. Unless a miracle happens, it looks like Jacksonville will take the last WildCard spot. Wait? Did I just say that Denver needs a miracle? I hope Tim Tebow doesn't read my blog...
NFC Playoff Picture #1 Seed: #1 Tampa Bay Bucs (14-0) Division Champion #2 Seed: #3 Washington Redskins (14-0) Division Champion #3 Seed: #5 San Francisco 49ers (12-2) Division Champion #4 Seed: #6 Green Bay Packers (11-3) Wild Card Rankings (top two make the playoffs): 1.#13 New Orleans Saints (9-5) 2. #15 Detroit Lions (9-5) 3. #11 New York Giants (8-6) 4. #16 St. Louis Rams (8-6) All signs still point to a Tampa Bay-Washington showdown in the conference championship game. New Orleans needs to beat Minnesota to clinch a playoff spot, as they will most surely beat Carolina in the last game of the season. However(!!!) if Green Bay continues their collapse and lose both of their games, including the regular season showdown with Detroit, then Detroit and Green Bay will make the playoffs and not New Orleans. New Orleans fans need to take care of business and root for Green Bay. Big Time. Bandwagon A reminder that once the Playoffs start if your team has been eliminated it's time to jump on the bandwagon and find a new team. If your team is eliminated again, you can jump on a new bandwagon and keep riding the wave of excitement right up to the championship. Start thinking about which team you want to support! Once again, and it's not too late, I encourage all winless teams (Atlanta, Buffalo, Arizona) to RECRUIT PLAYERS. Seriously, do you really want to be known as the dumbest fans in the NFL? Really? Want to trash talk and comment on The Season or the NFL games? Check out the Buzztime The Season Facebook Page. NOTE: Unlike the NFL, NO teams on The Season have bye-weeks. Look at The Season schedule to see who you are playing during your team's bye-week. NOTE: There will be NO GAMES on December 23rd.
Must win game for New Orleans. Do you think they can do it? Oakland Raiders (#4) vs. Detroit Lions (#15) Must win game for Detroit. This would be the upset of the year. Denver needs this upset to happens as much as Detroit does. Think they can pull it off? San Francisco 49ers (#5) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (#10) Best game of the week. Both teams are in the playoffs, but some bragging rights are on the line.
