Behind the Scenes at Buzztime with Fred Heald

At Buzztime, we have a wide array of interesting, fun and passionate employees that all play a significant role in perfecting our product and keeping our customers happy! We’d love to give you the chance to take a peek behind the scenes at who exactly these amazing people are.

Fred Heald is our Web Software Developer. He’s been at Buzztime for six years, and is responsible for both our customer and player sites (Buzztime.com and My.buzztime.com) as well as our other web properties. He loves digging through code to identify and solve its various problems, and enjoys the ability to work closely with other other departments like marketing, product development, and platform teams (even QA!) to create great web experiences. He also has a passion for the ocean and music, even attending the legendary Burning Man festival 13 times! Around the office, Fred is known for his witty sense of humor and fun attitude. Fred is also responsible for Buzztime’s Friday Game Day, where employees get together to play Buzztime games, try out new game ideas, and of course, drink beer!

What is your favorite Buzztime game to play?
Buzztime Live.  The combination of teams and a live host really make the game exciting.

What do you think makes for a great atmosphere at a bar & restaurant?
Lots of locals, great craft beer, great food, not too loud, not too crowded, scenic views and fireplaces on the patio.

What attracted you to the industry?
I used to work for small phone companies, processing telephone bills.  Working for a game/entertainment company is a lot more fun!

What is your favorite go-to drink?
I’m a craft beer snob, and we’re lucky to be in the Mecca of small breweries.  I like Belgian-style tripels; my favorite locals are Iron Fist, Mother Earth, and Pizza Port.

What celebrity, living or dead, would you most like to have a drink with?
Winston Churchill, especially if he were drunk already.

If you had a bar, what would you name it?
Donde su vida no vale nada (“Where your life is worth nothing”) (credit: Tim Cahill)

If you had a super power, what would it be?
The ability to travel through time, without all those annoying paradoxes.

What’s one cool thing about Buzztime you wish people knew?
We really do care about our players and our customers!

If you were stranded on a desert island, what 3 things would you want with you?
My family (wife, dog, cats, and parrot)
Gilligan, and the rest of the castaways.
Fueled-up Grumman Albatross to take us all home when I’m ready.

Tune in each week to catch the next behind the scenes segment of our Buzztime team.
