Almost Heaven… West Virginia
Buzztime has gone from being a hobby, in some cases, to an event… and what a fun event it can be!
In late March, Buzztime players from all over the country congregated in Buckhannon, West Virginia, for the second annual West Virginia Buzztime Open, a weekend of competition and camaraderie… and some serious smack-talking.
 The grassroots event was coordinated by a West Virginia player known as TIEFLY, who rallied over 60 Buzztime enthusiasts and Buzzie MaryC to set up camp at Allburghers Appalachian Pub. Players competed locally against each other, while collectively trying to keep Allburghers at the top of the national leaderboards. Meanwhile, locations such as Danny K’s in Orange, California, hosted “Anti-bashes” where they tried to keep Allburghers from ruling the boards, and sometimes succeeded!
Attendees of the event also raised money for the Upshur County Special Olympics by purchasing limited edition t-shirts made especially for Buzztime Open participants.
Local press covered the event and the Buzztime Forums are still buzzing with chatter about the festivities and plans for next year’s gathering.
A similar event called Triviapalooza is being planned in Huber Heights, Ohio, for the weekend of July 24th at the local Buffalo Wild Wings. In this, its second year, the event has already attracted the interest of over 100 participants who will help to raise money for the Hepatitis B Foundation, a cause close to the organizer Dave Tolle’s heart, who lost his brother to the disease in 2004.
