That's a lose-lose scenario.

BT has had some time now to see if replacing the specialty entertainment games with general games that are entertainment-loaded has resulted in any sort of increase in player numbers. I suspect the opposite is true. Therefore, a reevaluation of the role of entertainment questions in general games and a reconsideration of bringing back entertainment-oriented specialties would seem to be in order.

This is one of the best posts ever on this forum.

It seems as if the only reason Get Reel, Retro, Jukebox, Triviaoke, etc, were all dumped to begin with was because they didn't fit into the 15-minute Buzztime format.

But now that 30-minute Countdown has been restored, it seems like Get Reel & Retro could/should be easily restored. Get Reel was never my favorite game, but movie questions dominate the pop culture questions in Buzztime/Countdown. Because of that, it makes little sense to get rid of Get Reel.

Restoring Jukebox would be a taller order since the voting round doesn't fit into the new 15-minute/30-minute formats. But rather than scrap the game altogether, just come up with a new 30-minute Countdown version. I know MaryC has been saying for months now that we're not able to see the master plan so perhaps something is in the works to roll something out like that (wishful thinking).

But if it is in the Master Plan that some variations of Get Reel/Retro/Jukebox/etc are in development, it'd be nice if they could just hint to us that this is in the works...in that way, it would sooth a lot of players' frustrations over all the pop culture questions in general trivia AND sooth the entertainment players' frustrations that their favorite games were dropped.

I think there should be an "entertainment hour" every night. Make it a mix of Get Reel, RetroacTiVe, Tuned In, and whatever the shorter music game would be.

Then get the "regular" games down to 10-20% entertainment.

That way the entertainment block would be scheduled, known, and predictable.

OK. Since you are telling other people to open eyes/mind, you should as well.

August 2008: BT took out countdown (negative) Brought it back 1 week later after massive complaining (positive).

If you want to call Lunchtime Trivia positive, OK I will grant you that.

BT Made Brainbusters and Glory Daze 10 questions (negative) , changed it to 15 questions recently (positive); So now you have net gain of 1 positive.

NEGATIVES: BT Took out Get Reel, Jukebox, Triviaoke, and Retroactive. NONE of these have returned (total of 4 negatives).

Yet, there are more: BT Took out: Monday Sports IQ and Passport (2 more negatives).

Are you getting the picture?? We now have a net of 5 negatives---and this is not to mention the arguably bad changes they made to many games, which are too numerous to mention here.

So, negatives vastly outweigh positves. If you don't believe me, just look at the past threads on all of the above mentioned games.

I haven't played regular in quite some time; partly due to schedule conflicts with Showdown and partly due to all the mucking around with the format and elimination of games that should have stayed. Nine months later, the song remains the same.

Please add me to the list of people that prefer the return of 30-minute games as well as bringing back Triviaoke on Friday nights. The Friday schedule when I first started playing years ago was fantastic: Jukebox, Retro, Triviaoke, Spotlight all together starting at 1930/7:30pm ET. This should have never been touched.

America has become a nation of mindless sloths and zombies when long-running, thought-provoking shows such as Homicide: Life on the Street, The West Wing and Law & Order get canceled (or be on the brink), only to be replaced by reality programs and game shows that require no brain power whatsoever.

Fantastic!!! and couldn't agree more. Many people on many threads have been expressing the exact same thing.

Just look at how many extra people BT would have playing if they just listened to this!!!

Default Repeat Games

I think it's funny, though predictable, how I have not seen any recent mention regarding repeat Tuned In Trivia games during the last few weeks. This shows how we players no longer care about this 15-minute game. Buzzies...please bring back the 30-minute version of Tuned In Trivia!!!

^Well, the first thing they need to do is put more questions in the Tuned In database. The 15 min version of Tuned In is already turning into Retro, Get Reel, Triviaoke, etc, in the sense that they're not putting enough new questions in that game's database. That makes the game get stale real quick. There's no sense in even having the game on a weekly basis if they're not going to write new material for it. Stale games are just another version of Encore Presentations, which buzztime supposedly vowed to do away with.

We were also concerned that Tuned In was going to be a repeat game last Saturday because the first few questions seemed awfully familiar. But then a new question came up, and there a few others throughout the game mixed in with obvious repeats. Therefore, the problem seems to be overuse of the database in lieu of writing new questions rather than showing of repeat games themselves.

We really like the game, but we wish the problem of our not appearing in the rankings until the next day would be solved. This week we got to see our friendly rival Sam's (n/k/a The Concert Pub) in the top spot when by virtue of two perfect and several almost-perfect scores, we knew KC's actually claimed it. That makes for two very disappointed teams: us at the time, and Sam's when the real rankings are revealed. Expanding Tuned In back to 30 minutes would take care of this problem as it only occurs on the 15-minute BT-format games.
