I will admit that the first time I needed to access those keys I was confused initially. And this is from one who (at the time) had been around computers for 20 years and NTN/BT for 10.

Most newbies won't figure it out on their own the first time.

Agreed. And after a few brewskies and perhaps dim lighting it may not be so obvious. Has nothing to do with trivia skills as indicated earlier. I just think BT should shorten the sign up process. Email isn't necessary, and if many put in bogus emails or give up playing altogether then why even collect the info.

Buzztime needs a valid e-mail address in order to assist the government in tracking people and their movements.

And which "movements" are you referring to?

Default Major problem

So if they persist they may try to enter some bogus email and it kicks out because some previous new player has already used the common ones. A friend of mine was trying to sign up today and got so frustrated he just about quit trying until I helped him through the process, and he is a programmer. For whatever reason BT wants this info, this requirement should be reviewed. Perhaps get emails whenever someone registers online and is comfortable with their own keyboard is a better alternative, but turning off newbies who wish to join is just bad business.

This is a serious problem that has been noted on other threads, It is presumably known to NTN but they are studiously ignoring all comments on it and are apparently not working on it. About the only way to get new players interested is to show them how to get started as a guest, and let them register on their own computer if they want to get more involved.

The problem is the incredibly bad sequencing of choices on the Playmaker screen, combined with the fact that most bar staff do not know how to use the Playmakers and have no interest in encouraging new players. We have all seen new players get a board, struggle with it for a few minutes, then put it aside in disgust. My site is a small one, but assuming that it is typical, this must be costing NTN 1000+ new players every day, and is, in my opinion, the main obstacle to real growth of the participation rate. It is also a major reason why there are supposedly 903 000 members (who got as far as entering a user name and password before giving up in disgust), but only 121 000 active members.
