Registration FAQ

Q: Why are you making this change?
A:
We are converting to a single username and password system, which will allow you to login with the same information on buzztime.com, our hospitality network and mobile. This new system will also be more robust in terms of storing information, including scores.

Q: How will this change be shared with those who do not have forum, online or email communication?
A:
We are running ads on the network that let people know that there are changes to the registration process. We also have an information page on the site linking everyone to all of the tools that they need. Sites will also have access to PDFs that they can print out in case they need to help/inform players.

Q: What is the unique identifier?
A:
Your new username will be the unique identifier network-wide. This means no one in any game site location across the country and in our international markets, will have the same username as you. You may change your display name (the name that shows up on the screen while you play) at any time, without affecting your username or password.

Q: What happens to the old site handle (game display name) and old 4-digit PIN entered at sites?
A:
While we encourage use of the new username/password model, you may continue to use your PIN/Handle at locations.

Q: Will I be able to edit my username once I have created it?
A:
Yes, you will be able to change your username by going to Edit My Info. However, by changing your username, it is possible to lose it to another person who chooses it.

Q: How can I add a Username/Password to my old PIN/Handle account?
A: You add a username/password to your traditional PIN/Handle account by visiting buzztime.com/register. In the middle of the page, you will see a section that says "Already have a PIN and handle?" You will click the link next to it and fill in your Handle, your 4-digit code and then enter informaton on the right to find your homesite (ZIP code works best). Follow the prompts to create your new username/password. Please note that this feature will only work if your homesite is active. Those who have a PIN/Handle from a closed or terminated location must create a new username account and then Contact Us to get your points added to your new account.  You cannot change over to username/password at gaming site locations at this time.

Q: My old PIN/Handle account is tied to a closed location. How do I get a username account?
A: You will need to sign up for new Username/Password account by going to buzztime.com/register. You will not be able to use the "Already have a PIN and handle?" option, as terminated locations will not appear.  Create a brand new account by filling in the fields. You can choose your new homesite in the Edit My Info section. Once you have your new username account, please Contact Us and provide your new and old account information to move your points over. Please be aware that moving points to a username account may result in the loss of your achievements (National Top 100s, Local Wins, medals). Also, your old account will no longer be available to play since it gets deleted once the points are moved to your new account.

Q: Will PlayersPlus (site) players now be required to add an online account or become forum members in order to play?
A:
No, no one will be required to participate in our online community in order to convert to the new process.

Q: Will usernames and passwords only be able to contain characters available on the Playmaker?
A:
Yes, only characters available on the Playmaker will be available to create your new username/password.

Q: Will numbers, letters and special characters still be able to include these in the username, password or display name?
A:
Any information contained in the old PIN/Handle model will be supported in the new username/password model. However, your username must begin with a letter.

Q: Is my new information case-sensitive?
A:
Your password IS case-sensitive. Your username is not.

Q: Are there minimum/maximum character requirements in the new username and password system?
A:
Username is 4-16 characters. Password is 4-16 characters. On-screen display name is 2-6 characters.

Q: Can my new password be a word? Or does it have to remain numbers?
A: Your password can contain letters and numbers. We encourage you to choose a password that is easy for you to remember and enter on the Playmaker. Remember that passwords are case-sensitive, so check to see if your Caps Lock or Shift (depending upon your Playmaker model) is active if you get an error message.

Q: Is this new login system going to take more time to complete while playing at sites?
A:
The new login system is not anticipated to take any longer than the current login model. A benefit of the new system is that the Playmaker will notify you if you entered your username/password incorrectly.

Q: After entering my new username/password at gaming sites, can I still change my on-screen display name?
A:
Yes, you may change this at any time online by going to Edit My Info. Your new username/password does not affect your on-screen display name. There may still be multiple people with the same display name as you (like it currently is), but there will never be anyone with the same username as you.

Q: Will I still be able to change my homesite?
A:
Yes, you will still be able to choose or change a homesite online at any time. You can edit your information here in the My Home Site section. However, your homesite location is no longer tied to your account login information.

Q: What happens if I play away from my homesite?
A:
Your homesite location is no longer tied to your account login information. Your username and password is now a universal login, to be used in any location (game site, web and mobile).

Q: Will there need to be new Playmakers issued to fulfill these changes?
A:
No, all the changes will be able to be implemented using the current Playmakers.

Q: If my gaming site location changes, shuts down or no longer carries Buzztime, will this affect my new login and password situation?
A:
No, your username and password are able to be used in any location within our hospitality network, regardless of your selected homesite. You can simply change your homesite in the Edit My Info section.

Q: How does this affect players with forum accounts?
A:
You can now login at Buzztime locations, on the web and with a mobile device with your forum information.

Q: Does this mean I have to remember my password for the forums?
A:
You are still able to save your information on the website for the forums, but will need your password to play at gaming sites.

Q: Will my forum username/password be the username/password I use at gaming sites?
A:
Yes, you can use the same information in both places.

Q: Can I still keep and change my forum display name?
A:
You can still change your forum name (which is your username) but someone else may be able to take it, once you’ve let it go.

Q: Is my username also my display name while playing at game sites?
A:
No, your username is what you use to login on the Playmaker. Your chosen display name will show up on screen at game sites and can be changed online anytime.

Q: What about people who have been banned from the forums but continue to play the games at sites?
A:
Those who have been banned on the forums can still play at gaming sites but cannot participate in the online community.

Q: Will I lose my PlayersPlus points with this change?
A:
No, your PlayersPlus points will stay with you. This change keeps better track of your points and there will no longer be a need for combining accounts.

Q: Is this new system less secure than the previous system?
A:
No, this new system is more secure than our previous system and is also better at collecting and retaining your scores.

Q: I'm having trouble logging in, have any tips?
A:
There are a few common errors we have seen with players entering their information on the Playmakers.

  1. Make sure you are entering your account information in the correct fields. The Playmakers now have options for entering both Username/Password and PIN/Handle. If you enter your username/password information in the PIN/Handle fields (or vice versa), you will get an error message. The PIN/Handle fields may require you to scroll down on the Playmaker to find that option.
  2. Check whether the Caps Lock or Shift (depending upon your Playmaker model) is on. This button is "sticky", meaning it functions like a Caps Lock on a computer keyboard. As passwords are case-sensitive, this is most likely the reason why you are getting an error message.
  3. If you are entering username/password on the Playmaker correctly and are getting an error message, try entering your PIN/Handle (if you have one). Sometimes a player entering a username will get an error message on a correct login if the Buzztime location they are playing at is having connectivity issues.
  4. If you've tried all these options and are still having issues, please Contact Us and we'll try to solve your issue.
