Registration & Login FAQ

Q: I am a Legacy Player with PIN and Handle. Where do I go for help?
A:
Buzztime has moved away from our old PIN/Handle technology, and to a new Username/Password model! We have a FAQ dedicated to our Legacy players that addresses questions about the upgrade that we have made from the old PIN/Handle system, to the new Username/Password model. A Username/Password is now required to log in.

NOTE: If you registered with Buzztime on/after July 8, 2009 you will not need to worry about Legacy PIN/Handle information. You do not need to upgrade your account because you already have a Username/Password. You will not have a PIN associated with your account.

Q: I can't remember my Username and/or Password. What do I do?
A: By entering the email address you have associated with your account, you can have your Username sent to you with a temporary password so that you can reset your password. Click here!

Q: I'm trying to retrieve my log-in information but it's not working.
A:
There seem to be 2 current issues with retrieving your log-in information from our automated system (when you click on "Retrieve Log-in Info" and enter your email address). Most people are able to go through this process without problem but others either never receive an email after submitting their email address, or the new password that is sent to them does not work. This is how the system currently works:

  • If you can't remember your Username and/or Password first click on "Retrieve Log-in Info".
  • You will need to enter the email address ASSOCIATED WITH YOUR BUZZTIME ACCOUNT
  • You will then get an email to that address with a link to click. Basically this is confirming that you are the one that asked to do this before your Password is reset. Click on the link and it will take you back to our website with a message saying you were emailed your Username and a new Password.
  • Open the newest email to get your new password. Go back to the Buzztime website and log in with the new information provided.
  • If it works. YAY! Visit our Edit My Info page to reset your password.
  • If it doesn't work try again in a different browser (i.e. FireFox)
  • If it STILL doesn't work you may contact us. There's a form just for this problem! We are trying to address these problems before all others so you should not have to wait too long.
  • If you never received an email at all check 2 things before contacting us. 1) Did you enter the correct email address? 2) Are our emails getting caught in your SPAM filter? If you answer no to both of those you may contact us.

    NOTE: we cannot send you your current Password, as it is hashed and we do not have access to it. Instead we are able to manually reset your password so that you can log in ONLINE and change it.

Q: I keep hearing people talk about a PIN, but I don't have one. What is a PIN?
A:
If you don't have a PIN, don't worry! It just means that you have an upgraded account. PINs were only assigned to players who signed up prior to 7/8/09 and has been phased out.

Q: What is the unique identifier for my account?
A:
Your Username and email address will be the unique identifiers network-wide. This means no one in any game site location across the country and in our international markets, will have the same Username or email address as you.

Q: Can I edit my Username once I have created it?
A:
Yes, you will be able to change your Username by going to Edit My Info. However, by changing your Username, it is possible to lose it to another person who chooses it.

Q: Are Usernames and Passwords only able to contain characters available on the Playmaker?
A:
Yes, only characters available on the Playmaker will be available to create your new Username/Password. Note: Our system does not allow Usernames to start with a number; they must start with a letter.

Q: Can we include numbers, letters and special characters in our Username, Password and Display Name?
A:
Your Username may contain numbers and letters, however, the Username must start with a letter. At this time our system does not allow Usernames to start with a number. Your Display Name (Handle) must be letters only. Your Password can use any of the characters available to you on the Playmaker/keyboard. Note: Passwords are case sensitive, so keep this in mind when choosing one.

Q: Is my Username and Passord case-sensitive?
A:
Your Username is NOT case-sensitive. Your Password IS case-sensitive.

Q: Are there minimum/maximum character requirements for the Username, Password and Display Name?
A:
Username is 4-16 characters. Password is 4-16 characters. Display Name is 2-6 characters.

Q: Can my Password be a word? Or does it have to remain numbers?
A: Your Password can contain letters and numbers. We encourage you to choose a Password that is easy for you to remember and enter on the Playmaker. Remember that Passwords are case-sensitive, so check to see if your Caps Lock or Shift (depending upon your Playmaker model) is active if you get an error message. TIP: If you are a legacy player and don't want to see your PIN go, just set your new Password to be the same as your old PIN!

Q: Can I change my home site?
A:
Yes, you can choose or change a home site online at any time. You may change this at any time online by going to the Edit My Info page.

Q: What happens if I play away from my home site?
A:
When you play at a site other than your home site you will log in with your Username and Password just like normal! Only difference is that you will see a ^ next to your name to indicate you are a travelling player. Your Username and Password is a universal login, to be used in any location (game site, web and mobile).

Q: If my home site location changes, shuts down or no longer carries Buzztime, will this affect my Username/Password log in?
A:
No, your Username and Password can be used in any location within our hospitality network, regardless of your selected home site. You can simply change your home site in the Edit My Info section.

Q: Does this mean I have to remember my Password for the web site?
A:
Buzztime.com will keep you logged in until you decide to log out, however, you will need your Password to play at gaming sites. TIP: If you are a legacy player and want to keep using your old PIN when you log in, just set your new Password to be the same as your old PIN!

Q: Will my online Username/Password be the same Username/Password I use on the Playmaker?
A:
Yes, you will use the same information anywhere you log in to play Buzztime (online, mobile and on location).

Q: Is my Username also my Display Name (Handle) while playing at Buzztime locations?
A:
No, your Username is what you use to log in on the Playmaker. Your Display Name (Handle) will show up on screen at game sites and can be changed online anytime by visiting the Edit My Info page.

Q: How secure is the Username/Password system?
A:
This Username/Password system is more secure than our previous PIN/Handle system and is also better at collecting and retaining your scores.

Q: When I logged in, my Display Name (Handle) had been changed slightly. Why?

A: If some one at your location is already using the same Display Name (Handle) as you our system will slightly change your Display Name so that there aren't two of the same on the screen. Your Display Name will go back to normal next time you play (assuming you are the only one there with that Dispaly Name!)
