THOMASVILLE, N.C. – Picking a specific restaurant for a night out can vary on many things including what type of food you’re in the mood for or how close the eatery is to your home. But what you do at the table can also be a big motivator.

Billy Coley said if a restaurant features Buzztime games he’s more game to come back.

“I hate it when I talk myself out of an answer,” said Coley.

Coley visited Southern Sisters restaurant in Thomasville Friday and was pleasantly surprised to find the game system available.

“Back when it first started if you figured out someone’s password you could sit there and steal their board while they were playing,” said Coley.

He wasn’t aware that upgrades to the game now allow users at participating restaurants to order their food and pay for their meal through the tablet. The company also said users can also use the system to request songs to be heard or TV shows to watch on screens near their table.

“This would definitely encourage me to patronize restaurants that have this a lot more too because it’s simple,” said Coley. “If it’s busy you don’t have to worry about waiting for the staff. If you need to go then you can take care [of your bill quickly.]”

Southern Sisters owners Chris and Joy Thompson have opted not to use the “pay for your meal” feature just yet.

“I think it’s a great feature and it’s a great fit for some businesses,” said Joy Thompson. “In Thomasville, we’re a very small community and we don’t want to the opportunity away from anyone who needs a job we would rather have more servers on the floor.”

But Thompson said she trusts the system and would not have any reservations about paying for a meal through Buzztime elsewhere.

Buzztime boasts six million registered players competing in more than 60 million games each year.

At Buffalo Wild Wings in High Point, customers said they like the idea as well. The restaurant just added the game system to its location in the Palladium.

Southern Sisters added Buzztime last fall and also devotes Saturdays to trivia contests.
