The first Academy Awards ceremony in 1929 lasted 15 minutes, tickets were just five bucks, and the Best Picture winner was correctly announced (we couldn’t resist). Now, the Oscars are a top-rated TV event viewed by over 30 million, and there are no tickets – it’s invite only.
This year, Buzztime sent VIP invitations of our own.
The event? Awards Week Trivia Takeover, featuring special movie-themed trivia leading up to the awards show on February 26th. It was our way of rolling out the red carpet for our 9 million registered players – and for you.
Our goal was to connect Buzztime players with the hype of awards season by drawing them to your business for “lights, camera, action” gaming. So Buzztime integrated trivia questions related to the silver screen and past award shows into 4 of our top trivia games: Showdown, Six, Spotlight, and Playback.
Starting mid-February, Buzztime launched a series of Awards Week Trivia Takeover emails to players, inspiring them to visit your place the week before awards night to play the limited release trivia games. Awards Week Trivia Takeover also gave bars and restaurants a chance to promote their awards show viewing parties to movie buffs – many of whom returned to catch the action that Sunday night.
Just like Hollywood royalty, Awards Week Trivia Takeover rewarded star players with time in the spotlight. Top trivia players saw their name in lights on Buzztime Tablets and your TVs as they moved up the leaderboard. But unlike the movie biz, even players who don’t score high marks on games still get the star treatment from Buzztime. Every player is encouraged to keep on gaming at your location: we regularly send fun, engaging emails plus invitations to join our gaming community on social media.
The reviews are in: our first Awards Week Trivia Takeover won over the crowds. We hope you enjoyed blockbuster nights at your business during awards season!
